Godstone: The British Wildlife Centre

Open at weekends, bank holidays and school holidays, this centre has a brilliant range of British wildlife, from foxes and polecats to weasels: over 40 native species in total. The walk through red squirrel enclosure is a massive highlight.

There's a rolling programme of talks throughout the day, too, so there's always something to see. There's also a play area for smaller visitors - Pip's corner - in summer months.

Getting there: if you want to go by bus, you're looking at a 30 minute walk at the other end, probably without pavements, so it's best to go by car or cab.
