Kingswood is an historic woodland just north of Whyteleafe, in Sanderstead, covering just under 150 acres. There's a brilliant piece on its history here. It's a lovely spot for a wander, with paths laid out in a grid system that make it easy to work out where you are.
Look out for the pond, where lots of birds pop down for a drink, and watch out for deer in quieter moments.
Kings Wood is particularly spectacular in the spring, when it is carpeted with bluebells.
Getting there: Either walk over Riddlesdown, or jump on the 409 bus at Whyteleafe Station up to Warlingham Green, from where it's a 20 minute walk.
