Around 3.5-4.5km, depending on your route
By Jewson's on the outskirts of the village is an unassuming track that will take you all the way up the slopes of Riddlesdown. It's a lovely walk at any time of day, but in the afternoon and evening will be in the sun as the rest of the valley starts to be shaded out.
This route is a favourite with dog walkers, so be prepared for some canine company! It starts through woodland, then crosses the railway and opens out into some beautiful views. In quieter parts of the day, watch out for foxes and badgers in the wooded sections.
Return along the same route, or head up over the meadows and down into Whyteleafe Rec (see the second map below). The top fields are well worth exploring and host nesting skylarks in summer.
